Call Me a Nerd, But I Love to Over-Analyse Books
Because Every Book Deserves a Ridiculous Amount of Overthinking
Some people read for the story, and that’s great sometimes I only read to turn off my brain and have a great time. But other times…. I read for the deep dive, the kind of reading that involves sticky tabs, annotations, and long-winded debates (mostly with myself) about plot holes, foreshadowing, and whether a character’s strange behavior is intentional or just bad writing.
I know I am truly LOVING a book when I can’t just let it wash over me, when I feel no choice but I have to pick it apart, writing some note on every page. Why did this character say that? Is this a plot hole, or is it a clue? The more I read, the more I question, analyse, and theorise. If there’s a hidden detail to be found, I want to find it.
Take The Raven Cycle, for example, Maggie Stiefvater weaves so many layers into her characters and storyline, that it practically begs for overanalyses (I once made a whole floor plan and discussed every plot point, plot-HOLE and every possible outcome with my best friend… if you can’t tell by that The Raven Cycle is my favourite series of all time!!). Or Six of Crows, where Leigh Bardugo crafts such intricate character dynamics that half the fun is tracking every shift in loyalty and subtext. And don’t get me started on Throne of Glass, I could (and have) spent hours debating the implications of every prophecy, and power reveal I even made a whole (very unnecessary) family tree just for fun.
For me, annotating isn’t just a way to keep track of themes and relationships, it’s a way to engage with the book on a deeper level, instead of just passively absorbing it. Maybe I take it too seriously, but honestly? I love it that way.
So yes, call me a nerd, but I’ll proudly overanalyse every book I read. And if you’re the kind of person who finishes a novel and immediately needs to discuss every detail, welcome … you’re certainly in the right place!

I hope this means you will like my book when it's ready. I wrote it for the reread because i require a book to hold up to rereading in order the enjoy it.
yes! analysis is not a requirement for reading, but it's so gratifying when a book is so good that it feels like you have no other choice but to delve into it!
